-Fat Cattle. — Tho market for home consumption has %Mn moderately sunnlied with fat beasts during the past tWek, and prices have not vo.vied from our f omier quotations. Wo have sold a small lot of about 20 head of Bftoerior fat.stock, from Bidwell's station, at 31d per lb. ' ' Store Cattle.— The export trade to the South still re- - Mv its activity and in spite of the large numbers already
shipped, " the cry is still they come." Early in the week a goodly lot of steers, of different ages, from Messrs. Hammond's station, Rangitiki, were brought in for shipment to Otago, at £5 15s per head. A mixed herd of about 140 head, belonging to Mr Simpson of Turakina, was driven in about the same time, and realised, we believe, ft similar price, as there were some first rate animals among the lot, also intended for the South. About 200 head of mixed cattle were brought in from tlie Wairarapa,, from the station of P. Hume, Esq., on Wednesday. They are yot unsold and have been depastured in the meantime in our paddocks at the Hutt Captain Robinson has also sent in a draft of 70 head from the Manawatu. These have been sold for £5 10s per heud, for shipment A lot of fat cattle would have been sent away in the I.C.R.M. Cos. s.B. Airedale, and were sent alongside, but for some reason or other', after keeping them in the punts all night, they bad to be relanded ; a course by no means calculated to improve their condition. - Sheep.— A prime lot of fat wethers at 25s were shipped per Airedale. The butchers are ptetty well supplied aud current rates maintained. Store Ewes.— Good healthy flocks are in demand, and would meet with ready salo at payable rates to the grazier. A flock of 1000 ewes from the Tauerere station, a recent sale, passed through on their way to Wanganui last Wednesday, and we have frequent enquiries for more.
Horses. — No sales have come under our notice during the past week. The Remark has sailed with a full cargo of stock for Dunedin. The Yarrow and Valiunt are just completing their loading, and will probably sail to-morrow, and the Glenshee and Tyra are on the berth. The American ship Jenny W. Paine has been' very unfortunate, having been obliged to land the greater part of her sheep, owing to delay and overcrowing. We fear that the loss will be a severe one to her spirited charterer. We think attention should be called to the dead carcasses which are allowed to decompose at high water mark along the beach. The Otago people are more cautious of their health and less careful of our pockets, os Tre notice au item for funeral oxponues of frequent occurrence in our account Baleß of cattle.
