The Town Belt. — The tenders for the occupation of portions of the Town Belt and for fencing in the canal reserve, wore opened on Tuesday ; bnt in consequence of the N.Z.S.N. Co.'s meeting, their consideration was postponed until Saturday. Native News.— From Wanganui we learn that Pehi, one of the principal up-river chiefs, has interfered with a view to prevent the contemplated visit of a party from that neighbourhood to Ngatiruanui, on the ground that the Governor is right in talcing possession of the Tataraimaka, and ought not to be obstructed in doing so.

The Superintendent. — His Honor returned from his West Coast trip yesterday. On his return from Wanganui, he proceeded up the Manawatu, a little further than the gorge, in company with Mr Buller, returning by the same route.

\ln Tainb's Departure.— Daring tho course of the next fortnight, we understand Mr Tame will be leaving with his family for Otago. It appears to us that Mr Tame ought not to bo allowed to do so without some public recognition of the good feeling entertained towards him. Three and twenty years ago, Mr Tame began business amongst his then just landed fellotv settlers, and from that dote until now, has continued to enjoy the esteem of all classes of the community. Differing from us in his political views, we readily bear testimony to the absence of bitterness and acrimony which has characterised the part he has played, aa well as to the quiefc yet pushing enterprise of the life he has so long led amongst us ; and we feel sure that our men of business will not allow tha present opportunity to pass without eating salt together, or in some other manner bidding him a friendly farewell. Wellington Building Society, No. 2 — The seventh Annual Meeting of this Society is advertised to take place on Wednesday, the 15th April, at half-past 7 o'clock.
