COMMERCIAL.
Wool has arrived during the week, coastwise, I in considerable quantity. I TheWildDuck, we understand, has nearly finished loading, and we are glad to hear that Captain Bishop, as usual, has had all his passenger accommodation engaged— she will sail for London, towards the end of next week. The Earl of Windsor ia discharging her cargo in good order, and most of the gooda landed, have been purchased from the importers at satisfactory rates. Prices for imported goods are likely to be maintained, aa stocks in first hands, generally speaking, are very low ; the next ship from England, (fche Maria), can scarcely be expected for at least two months. The Chrysolite is getting on well with her loading, and in less than a month we anticipate Bhe will be a full ship — we hear of numbers of passengers from all the provinces that are going home in her. She has the best accommodation for passengers of any vessel at present laid on for London from New Zealand. Tho following goods we find to be scarce in the market: — bottled porter, Carolina, Java, and Patna rice, moleskin trowsers, wool p acks, gunny bags. Timber. — Red pine, 14s to Ida ; totara, sap and heart, 18s to 20s; do, all heart, 22s to 245. Mar. ket well supplied. Grain. — Flour, fine, .£l4 to £15 per ton ; sharps, per 100 lbs. 8s 6d to 9s ; bran, per bushel, Is 3d to Is 6d ; maize, 8s to 8s 6d per bushel ; wheat, 6s to Gs 6d ; wheat for fowls, 6s 6d to 7s ; oats, 7s 6d to Bs. Butter is quoted at Is 7d per lb. New Zealand bacon and hams at lid per lb. Potatoes £10 per ton. There is scarcely any of the two latter articles in the market. Live Stock. — We may quote fat cattle, 3Jd to 3jd per lb ; sheep, 4d to 4|d perlb ; Btore cattle, £4 to £Q, wethers, 13s to 15s; horses, unsaleable. Messrs, G« H. Luxford & Co, report the sale yesday, of 1100 ewes at 31s each. They have also sold 24 steers at £6 each, and 90 head store cattle at M 10s each. Messrs. Duncan and Vennell sold by public auction at their stores, yesterday, a variety of goods comprising Bass's ale, in hhds, negrohead tobacco, Mauritius sugar, American buckets, boots, shoes, cutlery, and hardware ; for which the following rates wore realised : — Bass' ale, per hhd, igs 15s; American buckets, 14s. per doz. ; tobacco, in kegs, duty paid, 5s 6d, per lb. Mauritius sugar, £i 0 per ton, (very little sold). The boots and shoes fetched fair rates, and the ironmongery goods were disposed of at tolerably remunerative prioea. The attendance was good, and competition brisk. Retail Markets. — Beef, per lb, 5d to 7d ; mutton, 5d to 7d ; veal, 6d to 8d ; pork, 7d to 8d ; l»mb, per quarter, 6s 6d to 7s. Vegetables. — Cabbage, very scarce ; turnips, 6d, per bunch ; carrots, 6cl, per bunch ; do, per cwt, 10d; potatoes, 9^ to 10a, per cvvfc; cucumbers, (scarce). Is to 2s, each ; vegetable marrows , fld to Is 6d, do. Fruit.— Apples, 4d to Is, per lb ; pears, 6d to lOd, do; grapes, none. Poultry.— Turkeys, from 8s to 12s, each ; geese, 4s 6d to os, do; ducks, 4s 6d to 6s, per pair ; fowls, 4s 6d to Gs, per couple. Dairy Produce. — Eggs, 2s, per doz ; butter ,, Is 9d to Is 10J, per lb ; bacon, very scarce ; hams' (English), Is Gd, perlb; Colonial do, scarce; cheese, (English), scarce, Is 4d, per lb ; Colonial do, Is 2d to la 4d, per lb.
