(From the Otago Daily Times.) Ship Kutusoff, from California, arrived at Sydney ; dates 24th December. News from the seat of war says General Burnside assumes the responsibility of moving across the Rappahannock at Fredericksburg. The official returns of the losses in the late engagement at Frederioksburg state that the Federals lost 1,128 killed, 9,000 wounded, and 2,000 missing ; whilst the Confederates are said to have lost 2,500 killed and wounded. The Confederates were defeated at Kingston, North Carolina, by General Forster. The New York Herald says that General Burnside will likely supersede General Butler in command of New Orleans.

The Confederates are concentrated in great force in the vicinity of Nashville. Orpheus loss caused profound sensation. Fitzgerald, charged with arson at Eyneton, acquitted.
