LONDON WOOL REPORT.

December,, lß62. The last sales for lhe year closed on the 12th December, the quantity catalogued comprising 13,717 bales Australian, 17,412 bales Port Phillip, j 3524 bales Van Dieruen's Land, 4513 bales Adel laide, 8938 bales New Zealand, 89 bales Swan River, 26.422 bales Cape; total, 74,618 bales. The tendency to depression which we noticed in our last report became more manifest as the sales progressed, the advance established at the opening was, lost, aud prices may now be quoted on the average equal to the last sale rates, except for faulty Sydney's, whioh have sold rather higher. It canuot be doubted that the home buyers have •from the first acted with extreme caution, and holding as most did to the opinion that speculators would wish to sell at some time during the sales, may. in part account for the want of spirit manifested by all, foreign put-chasers excepted, who bid I spiritedly for nearly all sorts, particularly the lower descriptions, hence all better qualities did not reach, the prices expected, and indeed pro raia, with medium flocks, did not fetch their relative value. The absence of competion on the part of Bradford spinners was much felt fof all good combtng flocks, but the heavy stocks held by them fr,om May and > August of the best clips offered little inducement for continued operations, particularly as at the present moment the demand for yarns is chiefly for those from English wool.
