ARRIVAL OF THE "QUEEN" WITH THE DECEMBER MAILS.
EUROPEAN NEWS to 6th JAN,
Independent Office, Wednesday Morning, I p.m. The s.s QueeD, Captain Robertson, from Otago via Lyttelton, arrived ir^ port tlis morning, at ]I o'clock, bringing the English December Mail, and telegraphic Intelligence up to Ibe 6th January. The mail was brought to Ota go by the Albarabra which arrived at Port Chalmers on Sunday morning last' at 5 o'clock. The Queen left Otago on Sunday at 2 p-tn. Through the courtesy of the steward of the Queen, who furnished us with a Melbourne i Examimer of tbe 14th instant., we are enabled lo present our readers with the following summary of intelligence. The Rangatira, with the South Australian portion of the mail from England, reached Glenelg about midnight on Thursday. That mail, it appears, was detained to allow of replies to the letters by the October mail, the delivery of which was delayer* by the wreck of the Colombo. It is stated that tie Australian mails by tiut unfortunate steamship were safely recovered and delivered. The dates from London are to the 29th December. It Vill be seen that the news is highly interesting and important. The Confederates have signally beaten the Federals before Federicksburg. The English Government has declined to accept the thune of Greece for Prince Alfred, aud the young Prince is now on liis voyage to this colony, in H.M.S. Racoon. Adelaide, Feb. 13, 1 a.m. The Rangatira arrived at Glenelg at II p.m., after a passage of 106 hours from King George's Sound. The P. and 0. Company's steamer Norlham, Captain Brooks, arrived at the Sound at six a.m. on tbe Bih inst. She Jeft Gaile on tbe 23rd January, at six p.m.
