The Tables and astronomical calculations are all reduced tothe Meridian of Hpitea Point, Port Nicholson, the Longitude of which is 174° 49' 15" East of Greenwich, (or in time 11h39m. ITs. earlier.) as determined by Captain Stokes, R.N. The Latitude of Hpitea Point is 4l Q 16' 87" South. In calculating the time of the rising and setting of the sun, which ißgivenin«p/w»m»/ lime, this latitude is employed. To find the mean Urne t or what the actual time should be by watch, at the rising or setting of the sun, the Equation, (as directed in the column for Equation of time) must be either added or substracted. The table of the Sun'a Declination, the most important column of all, to the Masters of our Coasting vessels, will be found correct to within a very few seconds, the Compiler having taken special pains to ensure the nearest possible approach to absolute accuracy, . ' The Moon's Meridian passage is given in astronomical time. This table is used in calculating the tides and its correctness may be relied on. Tho Phases of the Moon have been reduced to •Vellittgton civil time. The Statistics relative to Religion, Education, Population, Land, Agriculture and Stock, have been compiled from the last census returns, while the Imports and Exports, have been obtained from the Custom House The Publisher have to tender, their grateful acknowledgments to those gentlemen, who have kindly lent their aid, in preparing the present edition of the Almanack. The painstaking labour and scientific acquirements, which Captain W. M.
