Local Intelligence.

Asteiiope. — The Ship Asterope clears at the Customs this day, and sails for England the first fair wind. The Asterope is the first wool ship of the season, and takes a large aud valu able cargo, the declared value of which is £43,290 2s lOd, The Asterope arrived here on the 15th Oct, with a very large cargo of British merchandise, since which time her inward cargo bas been discharged, and she has been reladen with a cargo of Colonial produce, the time occupied being little over 7 weeks ; a despatch alike cieditable to Capt Mitchell, and her agents Messrs Levin & Co. She takes 20 cabin passengers,(includitig three children) amongst whom are Mrs Daniel Wakefield, Mrs C. R. Carter, pud other well-known parties, who are about to pay a visit to Europe. The Asterope is in capital sailing trim, and being a clipper vessel, we anticipate that she will make a quiok run home. We wish Captain Mitchell and his passengers a pleasant aud speedy voyage. The English Mail. — From our shipping intelligence it will be seeu that the English Mail had arrived at Otago, on tlje 3rd inst in the s.s. Alhambra. The Wonga Wouga with the Wellington portion, is expected hourly. Williams v. Feathebston. — The hearing of tbis case commeuced on Wednesday,- and was resumed on Thursday, when at 4 p.m. it was further adjourned till Monday next. The case rests on a question of disputed boundary, and as some interest is felt in tbe decision, we shall publish a full report when it is closed. Half Million Loan Bill. — The Lyttelton Times states that the Governor has assented to the Half Million Loan Bill passed by the Canterbury Provincial Council.

Fbeshßush in the Sooth.— The Daily Times of 'the 30th inst. says : — # We learn from the letter of our Inveroargill correspondent, that a new rush is reported: to have taken place in the Wakatip district, the precise locality being the Greenstone River.
