The Royal Shepherd, with the Tasmania!) portion of the English Mail by the Bombay, arrived at Launceston yesterday (Sunday) morning with the following message foe the Hobart Town Advertiser: — Adelaide, Dec. 12. Bombay arrived at St. George's Sound on the 7th inst. She left Galle on the 23rd Nov., via Jubal. London, Nov. 6. The bank forgers have been apprehended. Jessie M'Lachlan, Glasgow murderess, has been -respited. Trevelyan succeeds Laing in India. M'Clellan continues inactive. State elections pending, involving important results. A conflict has taken place between the Austrian and Italian troops. Arrived — Strathlodden. Sailed — Damascus, Spray, Cordova, and Loeilia. Bank rate discount 3 per cent. Consuls 93. London, Oct. 27. Fearful gales in channel: 100 ships wrecked: 500 casualties occurred, attended with frightful sacrifice of life. Ministers and members of Parliamant starring in provinces, making speeches about Italian • and American questions. Gladstone's speech on America indicating disposition on part of the government to recognise the Southern States seriously affected the cottou trade. Gladstone explained that he had said nothing more than that he believed the subjugation of the South was hopeless. Cobden, at Manchester, proposed formation of a League, to procure abolition of blockades of commercial ports by belligerents; Distress in Lancashire increasing daily. Collections made on fixed days in every Church in England and Wales. Public meetings held in favor of Garibaldi in Hyde Park and Birkenhead. These meetings irritated Roman Catholics, serious riots occurred, gross outrages o» persou and propert) committed by the latter. Two shocking railway accidents on Edinburgh and Glasgow, and London and Dover line. Several killed, two hundred severely injured.
