(From the British Colonist, V.1., July 1.) Battle at Salt lake.— There has been a secession on a small seals arnon^ the Mormons. A few months ago one Morris, believing him' self to be chosen by God to preach the Gospel, gathered together adherents numbering about 1000 and withdrew to a settlement about thirty miles from Suit Lake city. Some of his followers stole horses, and warrants were procured for their arrest ; but the service was resisted, and the officers of the law assaulted. A writ from a United States Court was similarly received by the fanatics, when a detachment of soldiers was called out. A bloody fight ensued, in which Morris and several others were killed and many others wounded, when the law-breakers were quelled and lhe arrests made. Among the killed and wounded were several women and children, whom the " seceshers" refused to remove before the fight began.
