SUPREME COURT BUILDINGS.
To the Editor of the Wellington Independent. Lambton Quay, llth December, 1862. Gentlemen,— -In your issue of the 9th instant, you state that you are informed that the mortar employed in the foundations of the Supreme Court Building is rotten and haa no cohesion, in consequence of which the bricks can be pulled out with tho greatest ease. Mr Gell, the architect and conti actor for those buildings, feels that the above notice is calculated to injure him materially, although the allegations therein contained are untrue, as I have ascertained on enquiry. I therefore ask you to publish in your paper an explicit contradiction of the allegations above complained of, or to give me the name of yourinformant; otherwise, lam instructed to commence legal proceedings.-— I am, gentlemen, your " obedient servant, ? C. B. BoBLASB. Messrs M'Kenzie and Muir, Independent Office, Willis-street, Welllington. [We willingly insert the foregoing letter, whioh will remove any impression created by the objectionable paragraph. We had not tho slightest intention to injure Mr Gell. The subject was one of sufficient importance to demand attention, had the information been accurate, and open to the observation of competent persons, by whiom ; any erroneous representation might be promptly negatived. — E.W.I.]
