LANCASHIRE RELIEF FUND.

DISTRICT OF PORIRTJA. On Friday last, a public meeting of the Settlers in the Poriiua district was held at Tawa Flat Chapel, the use of which was generously granted (as it has bean on several other occasions,) by the members of the Primitive Methodist Society. On the motion of Mr Best, seconded by Mr James Taylor, Charles D. de Castro, Esq., was called to the chair. The object of the meeting having been fully explained by the Chairman, the following resolutions wore carried uannimously. " That this meeting, having heard with deep regret of the great distress prevailing amongst the operatives in the Lancashire cotton districts, desires to express its cordial sympathy with the sufferers, and its piofound admiration of their extreme patience under such afflicting circumstances. 11 That this meeting, being desirous of affording asistance to our suffering fellow-countrymen, pledges itself to use its utmost endeavors to collect such pecuniary aid, as may be obtained, in order to alleviate their present distress. " That a district subscription list bo forthwith opened, and that the members of the district committee, be requested to visit all setttlers residing in their neignbonvhood, iv order to receive their donations. A subscription list was then declared to be opened and we are glad to hear that already a sum exceeding £30 has been subscribed to this benevolent object. A vote of thanks to the chairman, terminated \ the proceedings of the meeting.
