CRICKET.
SURREY V. ALL ENGLAND. In the Independent of Thursday last, we gave the commencement of this extraordinary match. We now give further particulars from the Home News. Ou August 27, the match was resumed on the Surrey Ground, Kennington Oral. The difference of the previous evening was left as a " by* gone,'' and the Surrey eleven continued their innings. G. Street taking the place of John Lilly white as umpire, Mr. Burbidge and Mortlock were the " nut-oats," and went on with their innings. Mr. Burbidge marked 20 when he was "c. and b. Wilsher," who staited bowling with Mr. V. E. Walker. In Mr. Burbidge's 20 were a four, a three, and two twos ; two wickets at 41 runs. Caffyn came next, and scored 23, including a fire (drive), three fours aud a three ; "c. and b. Willsher" agaiu ; 3 wickets at 67 runs. Jack* son took the ball from Mr. V. E. Walker, aud the next stand was made by Griffith who scored 11. The fourth wicket fell for 67, fifth for 74, sixth for 75, seventh and eighth for 92, ninth and tenth for 102 — 401 in a minority. Surrey, according to " cricket law," was of course put iv against the runs that were to be rubbed oS — that is they soon after went in tor the secoud innings. There was no chance for Surrey winning the match by runs, but they were determined not to lose it by time, and the defence made was admirable till the drawing of the stumps. " Time" was called at half-past six, and this cxtraordinaiy match, which will be remembered in the annals of cricket, was left drawn, Surrey having six wickets down for 154. Throughout the match the cricket was perfection on both sides, but Surrey, although strong enough to play most country competitors — and they play extraordinary matches sometimes, and sometimes win them — hi this were over-matched, as the following score will illustrate : — First Innings.
