The distress in Lancashire is increasing fearfully ; more than 100,000 people are receiving relief. The closing of tbe Exhibition i s delayed; visitors are falling' off* , The Queen bas been staying during the month in Germany.The Prince of Wales has been betrothed to the Princess Alexandra* Roupell. pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to penal servitude for life. - Ireland is still very disturbed. Tbe Great Eastern bas met with an accident. She struck on a rock, knocked a hole in her bottom, and had gone to New York for repairs. A great fire had occurred at Liverpool, and another at Blackfriars. A great hailstorm had occasioned much damage to crops in the south of England. The Archbishop of Canterbury was dead and tbe Bishop of London promoted to the primacy. Money market easy. Bank rate two per cent. Consols 93|. Victoria Debentures 109 to 110£. Wool sales favourable. Speculators bought j largely. Sales close briskly, with steady de- ! mand.
