CHRISTCHURCH AGRICULTURAL SHOW.

At the dinner of the Society, at the town Hall the first prize for agricultural implements maim- J factured in Canterbury was awarded to Mr. Keat- j ley whose ploughs,, harrows, &c , were of a high order of excellency, and who was cordially congratulated by thosft present on his success The prize wethers exhibite 1 at the Shaw were pur- ' chase'l by viessra Coker and Ell. Five were of th..; Merino breed, and were fe fon native grasp; they were those belonging to Mr. Chapman One which only slightly exceeds the rest in weight, weighed eighty pounds. These sheep were 4 yi*ar olds. In addition to these Messrs. Coker and Ell exhibited the carcasses of five wethers, halt-bred Merino and Southdown, bred an>l fovl on enclosed land, by Mrs. D -an, of Eiccarton. One aged only ten months, weighed eighty pounds, beinsj as heavy as the 4-year old Merino, fed on Mr. Chapman's run. Several interesting speeches were made, at the dinner which was furnished with every delicacy, and admirably served under the able superintendence of Mr. Uirdsey. and the company separated at a late hour, apparently much gratified with the evening they had spent, and saiguine for the success of the next year's show, towards which we hear a considerable sum has been subscribed. It is calculated that about 2,700 persona were present at the show during the day : £lbJ 10s 6d. was taken at the gates of the paddook ; of this amount about 4*30 was collected during the time that the admittance was fixed at 2s. 6d.: the remainder when the admission was Is. Upwards of t'7o havo been returned by the fortunate recipients of prizes, and paid iuto the fund for next year.
