THE ASTEROPE.
To the Editor of the Wellington Independent,
Sib,— l am much surprised at a paragraph in your paper of this morning, stating that the Asterope bas finished discharging. This I beg to state is very far from being tfie case, aud some oi the consignees would no doubt be interested to learn from whom you obtained this palpably false information. "* The consignees of goods may be somewhat con" founded if after reading this news, their private correspondence tells them that their goods were landed on a later day, or probably were still on board when this months mail left here. And should your statement remain uncontradicted, they will naturally conclude that their agents are misguiding them. I therefore hope you will correct the error, not on my assertions, but upon proof which you can easily gather yourself. ■ My firm has yet to receive from the Asterope ( at least, between 300 and 400 packages, which 1 can prove by the Custom House blue books. No good purpose can be served by publishing aii untruth, but you, of course, did it unwittingly, and your informant is the party to blame. I enclose my card, and am, sir, your obedient servant; - . A. Consignee. Wellington, 4th November, 1862.
