There is no alteration in the state of the markets since our last report. There has been two auction sales during the week ; but as they were made chiefly to close consignments, they do not afford any indication of current rates. Messrs. Duncan and Venn ell sold by public auction pn Tuesday last, the 28th Oct., a quantity of merchandise, which realised the following — 15 tons Tasmanian flour, £l4k per ton; sherry, in wood, 4s. 6d. to ss. per gallon ; do., in case, Bs. 6d. to 11s. per doz. ; port, 15s. per tioz.; gunny bags, 2s. per doz;. ; cut nails 5s per keg ; clothes lines, in bales, sd. per lb. ; old ships tackU15s. per cwt. ; and a quantity of other goods to close consignments, which "fetched satisfactory prices. Mr. John Homer sold on Wednesday, the 29Ui Oct., some household furniture and a cargo boat, which realised satisfactory prices. Considerable activity has prevailed in shipping The 8. s. Claude Hamilton, a new vessel, recenth built lor th 6 I.C.R.M. Company, arrived from Sydney and Nelson on the 2titli iiist., and saileu for the South on the 28th. The s.s. Airedale from Auckland and othei Northern ports arrived in this port on the 27th and sailed for Nelson and Sydney on the 29th. The Wonga Wonga sailed on the 2'Jth for Pic ton, Nelson, Taranaki and Manakau. wtli a fuh general cargo and a fair complement of passen , gers. ' The brig Louis and Miriam, sailed yesterday for Sydney. The s.s. Storm Bird, is at present undergoing repairs, and is hauled up on the beach at Lambton .Quay for that purpose. It is intended to tit in a new screw shaft, and as various other renovations will be carried out, it is probable tha. several weeks will elapse ere she is once more lit for service. &*From private information we learn that the Wil Duck had been filled up at London, and was to Sail for Wellington, positively on sth September with a- full cargo and a considerable number 6t ? passengers.
