COMMERCIAL.

The recent arrival of the barque Harriet Armytage from Sydney, and the Princess, from London, has stocked the market moderately with those articles in which a deficiency previously existed, and Wellington is now plentifully supplied with wines and spirits in case and bulk, groceries, and oilmen's stores, the only scarcity that is felt being in calicos and cotton goods. There have been several auction sales of importance during the week, at all of which Mr. Duncan officiated as Auctioneer, at which fair rates have been realised for the goods submitted to competition, as the following detailed statement will show : —

A collection of engravings and chromo-lithographs, fetched prices ranging from 12s. to 30s. each, while the furniture, ornaments, fancy goods, and stationery were disposed of at a reasonable margin above original cost.

A sale of freehold property, by order of the executors of the late Robeit Jillet, at Pahautanui, took place, on Thursday, the 2nd inst., when the land, consisting of 175 acres, including the house, stables, and outbuildings situated thereon, was disposed of after some competition to Mr. C. Pharazyn for the sum of £640. The lease of the house and grounds in Willis-street, lately occupied by Mr. F. K. Allen, was disposed- of on Wednesday, for the sum of iglso. The lease has still 14 years to run, and the ground rental is HBO per annum. Yesterday, Friday, the same firm sold at Tinakori road, on the premises of the late Mr. Charles Mills, builder, a large quantity of tools, timber, nails and other building materials, horses, carts, and implements, at which there was a good attendance of the Trade and general Public, and the prices realised were, we believe, considered satisfactory. Between 300 and 400 lots were got through, and the auction lasted upwards of five hours.
