Business during the week has been quiet, and the transactions generally have been to a limited amount. The news by the English mail has not affected our markers in any marked manner, and prices for most articles rule pretty nearly the same as last week.

Wheat is firmer, and telegrams have been received of a. demand in Adelaide for wheat for Melbourne. There is very little Adelaide wheat in the market, and it is worth 6s. 3d. Oilmen's Stores are in moderate demand, but as stocks are ample there is no alteration to notice in prices.
Tobacco. — The accounts of the tobacco market received by the ' Bombay,' are unusually favorable to holders of stock. London circulars state " a decided changfc in the market, aud a material advance in quotations. Exporters in the market, and business upon a different scale of figures to those quoted a few weeks back." In the two great markets of the world, !N ew Torlc and Great Britain, there is less stock than in the Australian colonies, and return exports are not at all improbable. Advices from New York report grert activity in the manufactured aiticle, and in June and July hae experienced an advance of nearly 30 per cent., and that buyers for the Californian market could not meet their requirements. Advices from Virginia had come through, but except for home, consumption, this market may be considered for the present all but extinct, stock being limited. Anything under the name of manufactured tobacco, had been bought up in London at extreme rates. With these advices holders of stocks here show no anxiety to realise : and although many enquiries have been made, but little business has been transacted.
