For Wellington, Ship "Wild Duck," Bishop, to sail August 31. i The ship "Wild Duck,"' hence 6fch April, ay- ■ rived at the Downs on the 17th July, after a f favourable passage of 102 days. i \ {The " Ava^nche," 692 tons, Captain Scott, ; belonging to Messrs. larks, arrived at Gravesend, with troops, from New Zealand, and landed her detachments on July 21. She brings home 45 non-commissioned officers and men of the Royal Artillery, Royal Engineers, Army Hospital Corps, • 14th, 40th, 57th, 65th, and 70th Regiments, the i whole under the command of Lieut. C. J. Urqu- ■ hart, 65th Regiment, and in medical charge of : Assistant-Surgeon A. Neil, 65th. The "Avalanche," i sailed from Auckland on the lGth of April, the i only land touched at Pernambuco, which was ■ reached on the sfeh of June. One death and one i birth occurred on board during the passage. Major Stack and Lieutenant Bailie, late of the Goth, who were cashiered by sentence of general court martial, came home passengers. — Home News, July 26. The presentation of the Victoria Cross to William Odgers, captain's coxswain of her Majesty's ship Cambridge, for conspicuous and daring bravery at the storming of a f pah in New Zealand, on the yßth March, 1860, took place on July 24, in the Government parade ground, Devonport. Odgers requested that it should be distinctly stated tkat "there ware many men as good as himself present at the stohningjof the pah ; but that it happened to be his good fortune to get in first. — Home News.
