SYDNEY COMMERCIAL.

Debentures. — In New South Wales Government debentures there have been no transactions this week, prices therefore are nominally the same. Queensland Government debentures have been dealt in to some extent, and all those for sale in Sydney amounting to about ,£20,000 f have been placed at 105 and interest. Business has been good during the week, and some extensive sales have taken place. The principal transactions have been in tobacco, rice, and other leading articles ; but we notice also, a considerable speculation in kerosine oil, which has been purchased for the Melbourne market. The following is the latest report of the state of the markets : — • Flour. — We have to report a greater degree of firmness in this market. An improvement in price is looked for, in consequence of large transactions having taken place at Adelaide at an an advance upon previous rates, owing to the demand for the Victorian market. The millers' quotations are the same as last week : — for fine flour .£l4, and for best seconds Al2. Liquors. — Brandy continues firm. Mariell's la scarce, and worth 13s. 3d. ; Hennessy'a pale is quoted at 13s. to 13s. Id. Rum is dull of sale at 3.5. lOd. to 4a. Whisky remains scarce; Scotch being saleable at ss. Gin is the same as last quotations — 14s. to 15s. In sherries there have been no sales to report, Port is in demand ; medium being quoted at 4a. 6d. to ss. 6d., and good from 10s. tolls. Ale in bulk continues scarce, and is worth from M 8 10a. to .£9. For bottled Allsopp's the quotation is still 9s. to 9s. 6d. . Tobacco. The market has been in a state of furor during the week — since the news per mail — and best brands of negrohead have been disposed of as high as 7s. per lb. in bond. In every description of tobbacco there has been much speculation, and corresponding extravagant rates realiggd. In cigars the market is subdued, but impdft prices and stocks being held on speculation, dealers will have to succumb to advanced rates. Teas. — The market is firm, and holders are looking for an advance, stocks being low. Good congous are quoted at £7 10a. to £8 10s. ; best ditto are worth £10. Coffee. — The market continues firm. Manila it) quoted at from 9d. and plantation at I2d. . A large parcel of the latter was placed at auction at ll^. Sugars.— There is a slight improvement in this market, but it is still dull. Rioe. — There has been a rise of £2 per ton in this market, stocks being low, and no vessel having left Calcutta for this port. Patna has been sold at MU. Oilmens' Storks continue in request, — pickles being scarce, and firm at 9s. 9d. to 10.
