Provincial Secretary's Office, Christchurch, Canterbury, March 21, 1802. r g^HE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT being I about to erect a Lunatic Asylum on Section No. 159, on the Lincoln Road, about two and three quarter miles from Christchurch, invite gentlemen in the profession to submit designs for the same, 1 find offer a premium »i Thirty-five pourds for the I best design, and Fifteen pounds for the second best design, to be sent to the Provincial Secettary's office before the Ist day of June next, accompanied by a general description of the work proposed and an apsroximate estimate of the cost of the building. The Buildings to be capable of accommodating SO patients — sny 33 males nnd 17 females ; with all necessary offices, Bath Rooms, Reception Rooms, and Surgeon Superintendent's residence ; and to be so designed that a portion could be erected complete in itself for the reception of half the above number of patients. The design to comprise the modern improvements usually found in such Buildiugs with careful arrangements for light, warmth and ventilation, and efficient security and supervision. The material used is left to the suggestion of the Architect, stone foundations being in any case indispensable, and well raised above the ground line The Goverrment reserve to themselves the right of judgment as to the fitness of the Designs, and to withhold the premiums hereby offered if in their opinion the Designs sent in are unsuitable for the purposes intended. Any Design to which a premium is awarded becomes the property of the Government. Further particelars may be obtained from the Provincial Architects at their offices, Stone Buildings, Christchurch.
