Taranaki Steel Iron Company, Limited, Registered Offices, No. 3, De'ahay street, Westminster, S.W., London, 26th Sept. 1861. Sir, — As one of the Managers of this Company it is my duty to inform your Excellency that although the Directors feel boundless confidence in the tesults of the undertaking of the Company and fully believe that it will give a high standing position to New Zealand among the English colonies, the unsatisfactory reports received from time to time as to the waa raging in the Province of Taranaki have delayed them in their operatioas and greatly embarrassed their movements.
The operations of this Company have absorbed, and will yet absorb a large capital, which would have beea placed at great risk if before new, the smelting operations had begun at Taranaki.
The wbole of the machinery and plant wanted for carryiug on on a large scale the smelting operations of the Taranaki sand at New Zealand is now on board a vessel belonging to tbe company and a very efficient staff of able workmen is engaged and waiting to sail as soon as news of a little more satisfactory kind with regard to the state of the Province of Taranaki arrives here, aud I sincerely hope it will come by the next mail, as the delay is very detrimental to the Company's interest.
