The arrival of the Fanny Fisher |from Sydney has supplied oar market with a variety of useful articles, and the Arabella and Albemarle from London, both of which have come in within the last few days, have brought large cargoes of seasouabje goods, which dealers have been waiting for. to replenish their reduced stocks. Some activity may therefore be reasonably looked for, as soon as the discharging of these ships shall have fairly commenced.

The Asteropo is nearly ready for sea, and will shortly proceed with the first of this season clip of wool, and one or tvtfo more may be expected to follow, before

r the season closes, although probably t ■ good deal of w>ol may fiiid its way to England via Sydney, as has been the 1 case for several years past. In another part of our paper we have . expressed a hope that increased banking facilities will induce our merchants to try to re-open a direct trade with China and the Rjtst Auckland is already giving at- , teution to the islands of the Pacific, and J we might advantageously follow their ex- :> ample. It is not to be desired that any- , thing like reckless over-trading should spring up, but we do hope to see that the proper advantages of our position iv a commercial point of view, will be made the most of, instead of beiug neglected as they have been.
