SCHOOL EXAMINATION.

The undersigned having at the request of Air. Tuomath, examined the pupils of his School nil Thursday, DtiJ., 1.9, and at intervals during several previous days, have much pleasure in bearing testimony to the general proficiency displayed by the scholars, and the high standard to which the school asa whole has attained. The examination included Latin, Mathematics, Algebra, English grammar and composition, Scripture History, Arithmetic and Drawing, and the examiners only refrain from giving a detailed report from the conviction that two of- the lads, Masters W. Bishop and W. Mason are from their age und acquirements so much in advance of all the rest, that comparison would ba in a. certain sense unfair. The Maps and Drawings which were exhibited, the answers that were given, and the specimens of composition pro duced by those lads, would hive made it ex ceedingly difficult to give to either any prominence before the other, while as respects. the rest of the school, competition was out of the queuiou. The examiners therefore content themselves with s.iying that Masters Magiunity, Jame^ Lyon andCarkeek displayed a very unexpected amount of knowledge and ability, and that Masters James Moir, W. Knowles, S. Hickson and Dransfield gave raostfsatisfuctovy \ indications of future excellence.

After the examination the examiners were requested by the liids to present a very hand some cup with suitable inscription to Mr. Toomatb, au ornamental inkstand to the lier. W. Kirton, and a beautifully illustrated book to Mr. W, H. Holmes.
