NELSON.

By the Wonga Wonga, we have received our usual files of papers up to the lltb inst. The nomination of candidates for the superintendency of Nelson took place on the 30lh Nov., in the Provincial -Hall. There were three candidates "proposed, via. : — Messrs. Robinson, Wrey, and Barniooat. On the show of hands being taken, there appeared 89 for Robinson, 3 for Wrey, and 26 for Barnicoat. A poll was demanded, and Monday the 23rd Dec. fixed for taking the poll. i\! r. Wrey has since retired from the contest. The following extracts have been taken from the papers received by this opportunity : — International Exhibition of 1862. — The articles sent in to the Commissioners appointed to forward from this province whatever objects were by them deemed worthy of exhibition at tbe Great International Exhibition of 1862, are being arranged in a room of the Government Buildings, and will bo opened to public view on Monday next.— Examiner, Dec. 7. Gold prom Wangapeka. — We saw, on Thursday last, some very fine nice samples of coarse nuggety gold, which had been obtained in this district. One sample of several ounces was, we think, the brightest colored gold which has been obtained in this proviuce. Several of the pieces weighed one pennyweight and the whole of what was shown to us was very coarse and not water-worn. . It had been obtained in but a few days by two persons who, however, declined to mention the spot from which they got it. — Ibid. West Coast Coal. — At length we have received a sample of the River Grey coal, the Mary having brought 36 lons of it on Wednesday last. We believe that it will immediately be thoroughly tested, and its value, for steam and domestic purposes, ascertained. Its appearance seems equal to the finest English coal imported, and it presents one great feature which the Nelson coal hitherto in use has noc possessed, it yields a cinder, very similar to Eiuglish ooal. 15 tons are to be put on board the Lord Worsley, and a smaller quantity on board the Tasmanian Maid, so that its value as a steam coal for sea-going purposes will bo practically ascertained. — Ibid. ■ »
