COLONIAL INTELLIGENCE.
Singular Porcine Attachment. — On Friday last, as two of Mr Bath's horseteams were returning from Carngham, and wben within a quarter of a mile from the township (Ballaarat), a sow, about seven months old, persisted iv walking under one of the carts as a dog would do under similar circumstanoes. Every effort was made by thedrivers to rid themselves of their new acquaintance, but the animal showed no disposition to dislodge. Oh , their arrival at Burrumbeet Creek, the driver naturally concluded that their porcine friend would necessarily leave ( them, as the waters were very high. The ' horses had just reached the opposite side of the stream, when her sowsbip, taking a short survey of the rolling flood, plunged in and got safely across. She tben took up her accustomed place beneath one of the carts, and did not desert it until she arrived at Ceres, where she was safely housed for the night, the looality, the stable, being of its own selee- , tion. Next morning, no sooner were the ■ horses removed from the stable and . placed between the shafts, than the driv* , ers beheld their Carngham acquaintance i beneath the cart, and ready for another > peregrination on the farm. When the day's work was concluded, the pig return - ; ed with the men, entered the st&bles with the horses, and resisted all attempts at removal.— 'Ballaarat Star, , A Tale of HoBROR.—Mr — ; — , we shall call him Mr Vellum, of .Melbourne ■ is blessed with the friendship lof Mr—, we shall oall him Mr StookWhip , -r-whose; pattie station is not a hundred miles from Eohuoa; Stockwhip is in the

Perhaps we don't know how to cook it ! properly, suppose we try it to-morrow fpr breakfast ; stewed it was, and certainly it I tasted a little more savoury, but still tough. [ The proper mode of cooking it had cvi- , dently not yet been hit upon; a piece was . ordered to be boiled for dinner, and Vel- | lum started for the day's buisness in Chancery lane. There was the usual pile , of letters to open, but one in Slookwhip's handwriting had the preference, aud here ', it is-— "Dear — * , the scourge bas reached us at last.
