ON SALE, . 1 12 Horse Tower High Pressure Steam 1 Engine with Boiler and Fittings complete 1 14 do. Portable Steam Eugine with Boiler and. Fittings complete W. & G. TURNBULL & Co. Wellington, sth Oct., 1801. , , , NEW ZEALAND STUD BOOK. AS it is proposed to publish, early next year, a STUD BOOK for New Zealand, persons possessed of thoroughbred horses, who wish to have their stock recorded in the pages of the work in question, are requested to furnish the undersigned, as soon as possible, with the fullest particulars they possess of the breeding of. their, hoisea. Tbe great and increasing interest shown in all the provinces in the breeding of thorough-bred horse stock, renders a work of tbe above, character highly desirable, as, without it, in a few years the pedigrees of many valuable animals will be altogether lost, so tbat it will be impossible at any future time to certify to the blood of "their descendants. From the circumstance that, uutil quite recently, no Stud Book was ever published in New ' South Wales, to which colony New Zealand is so largely indebted for its horse stock, it has already become difficult to [trace the pedigrees of many of our supposed thorough-bred horses to tke English Stud Book, the only recognised authority of a horse's purity of breed. Much, however, maybe done by research and inquiry to clear up doubtful pedigrees if the task is at once undertaken, but the longer the work is deferred the greater will be the difficulty of ultimate success. [ The following is given as specimens of the form in which the Editor of the work wißhes information [ to be furnished bim, or as nearly so as circumstances will permit : — (1). REGALIA, bay mare, bred by Mr. Icely, of New South Wales, and imported to Nelson by Mr. Redwood, in 1852; got by St. John (E.T.8.), out of Rakish Kit, by Emigrant (E.T.8.), g dam Spaewife (E.T.8.) 1853, b c liiktrmnjt, by Sir Hercules\ ! 1854, missed to Sir Hercules M p...,^., ' 1855, r f Emerald, by Lamplighter xr ' , 1856, missed lo Sir Hercules ) 1857, b « Roy ully, by Chevalier '\ . 1858, missed to II Parbiere 1859, b c Regnum, by St. Aubin J»Mr. Elliott. 1800, missed to Potentate ' 1801, b f fc by Towton J (2). Hawke, got by Melbourne, dam Cinizelli, by Touchstone, g dam Brocade, by Pantaloon. . Melbourne by Humphrey Clinker, Imported to New Zealand in 1858. The intials, E.T.8., Bignify English thoroughbred, and, where used, show that the horse to which they apply was bred in England, and may be found in the English Stud Book. As a New Zealand Stud Book witl be a work of great value to all breeders of thoroughbred horses iv. the colony, aud will, hereafter, be a standard book of reference, it is hoped that persons having ihoroughbred stock, br what are supposed to be so, will lose no time in furnishing lhe Editor with the fullest information they possess respecting them. Where pedigrees of colonial-bred horses are defec tive, the Editor will endeavour, when practicable, to render them perfect. The New Zealaud Stud Book will be uniform in size and style with the English Stud Book, and contain in addition to those of our owu colonial horses, the pedigrees, as far aa they can be procured, of all thoroughbred stallions and mares imported into Australia, from which so lare a portion of our own stock are descended ; and to render reference to the English Stud Book, which ia not always at baud, as little necessary as possible, pedigrees will be carried back to well-known sires and dams of English horses, so as to show the particular strains of blood ouv horses possess. The price «f the work to Subscribers will bo £1 le., to non-Subscricers, „1 lis. Od. Subscribers are requested to send iv their names, so that they may be printed with the work. C.
