LATEST FROM OTAGO.
By the Mary Jane, whioh arrived in port this morning, we have received news from Otago up to Monday last. * The intelligence is of the same cheering character as that whioh had previously come to hand. Gold was being found in abundance; but the weather had been very severe. Tho steamer Oscar, from Melbourne the 20th August, had arrived at Otago, with 350 passengers It was thought that there were about 5,000 persons on the diggings already, and the ory was, " still they come." We are informed that the Escort had brought in upwards of 7,000 ounces, and there was a large quantity yet left in the hands of the diggers. The Wellington party, per Lord Ashley, had arrived on the diggings, and had commenced operations, so that we shall probably hear full particulars by the Lord Worsley, whioh is expeoted here on Sunday next.
