Pbize Medal.— We understand that Mri Marriott, with his usual indefatigable zealj has made an elegant silver medal, which it bis is intention to present to the Wellington Rifle Corps, to be contested , for at some subsequent period to be agreed, upon. On the obverse ' of the Medal are two Rifles crossed, surmounted by a ribbon, on which is engraved the Wellington Volunteer Rifles; andat the base acorresponding ribbon established 1860. On tbe reverse,' 1 is an e'aborately engraved ornamental shield,' con-' taiuing tbe -following — Presented to 'ihe successful competitor at the trial shot, : ' \'[ the blanks being left for the name ofthe winner,' and the date. We trust Mr. Marriott's example will be followed by others of our. citizens. .'.,< Fibe at Waibabapa.— On Monday, tbe 17th; Inst., intelligence reached town, by a special Messenger, that Mr. Charles Mathew's new seven roomed bouse, in course of erectioq at, Wainrongaraai was accidently burned to tho ground on Wednesday last, and eveiy thing it contained, together with £20 belonging to ons of the carpenter's was destroyed. Two valuable dogs, which were tied up in the house, at the time of tbeaccident, were unfortunately burnt to death. It-is not known how the fire originated there being 1 no person in the house attbetime it occurred, the cook)having}gone out shooting, and the other men being absent at their w«xk, a distance, of about $of a mile. Mr. Mathews estimates his" loss at about £200. The building $?as uninsured.
