TARANAKI.
By the Juno, wo have received intelligence from Taranaki up to the 17th hist. Nothing of importance had transpired since the date our last advices. The Tasraauian Maid had arrived from A.ucklaud, bringing news to the 15th lust., and the Wellington portion of the mail hu9 been brought on here by the Juno. The state of affairs at Taranaki are unchanged. The Ngatiruanui and Taranaki tribes slill continued to refuse the terms of peace offered them by His Excellency the Governor. The settlers are not well pleased with his Excellency's proceedings, and many of them feal that he has " let them spill iheir blood, and risk the labour of 20 years on a wool gathering expedition, to come shorn by his owu hands." During his Excellency's last visit, he met with a very cold reception ; not a hat was lifted, not a single cheer was given. The whole of the rebel prisoners had been released, with the exception of " Big Joe " who broke out of gaol, and made his escape. Sickness is prevalent, principally dipthoria, aud many deaths bad taken place.
