On November 21 the officers, non-commissioned officers, and:inen composing Qaptain H. Mercer's 3rd Battery, 4th Brigade of Royal Artillery, assembled on parade in marching order for final inspection by Majbr-General Sir R. Dacres, commandant, and staff, previous to embarkation at the Royal Arsenal Pier, Woohyich, for service in New Zealand. Notwithstanding the unfavourable ; state of the weather, a large number of spectators lined the streets, and some cheering took place when the force entered the.main.gufcjjof the Royal Arsenal. About , 3 o'clock the officers and men of the battery embarked from the Royal Arsenal Pier on board the troopship Norwood, which has been fitted up* in an excellent manner, especially with regard to sanitary arrangements, for the -comfort of the soldiers and a limited number of women and children, who subsequently embarked. The battery consists of Capt. Mercer, in command; Second Capt. W, JH. Watson, who has proceeded by the overland route to. prepare the horses for the use of the battery on thehVarrival ;. Second Capt. A. S; Hunter, .Lieut. H. C.Magenia, Lieut. A. T. Pickard, arid Assist. ; -Surgeon W.. Temple, M.8., 850 non-commissioned officers and men, and 22 women and children; > .They were played to the place of embarkation by fclie^ Artillery . band, and were accompanied by 'Brigade-Major Shaw, Major Reilly,, 0.8., aide-de-camp to the General, and Major Field, deputy-assistant-quartermaster-general.
