T~ENDERS will be received by the Under- 1 signed at the Custom House, not later than 112 at noon, on the seventh day of February next, for Kepairs &c. to Barracks Specifications and particulars of which, may be known, on application at the Royal Engineer Oifice, Mount Cook Barracks S. CARKEEK, Collector of Customs, FIREWOOD. Commissariat, New Zealand, Wellington, 15th January, 1861. in Duplicate will be received at this Office until noon of Wednesday, the SOth instant, from persons .willing to contract for .furnishing Firewood, in such quantities, at such times and at such places within tho Town of Welliugton, as may be directed by the undersigned or, by his successor in office, during the twelve Calendar Months, commencing the Ist April next, under the conditions hereinafter specified, viz : — Firewood at per 100 lbs. 1st — The Firewood to be exclusively of Manuka, 'Rata, Tawahi, Ti Toki, Matapo, Maire, Aki, Aki, and Tawa, to be well seasoned, split, 'and cut in straight lengths of four feet, the wood although paid for by weight, according to the Tender, must be delivered by measurement, and stacked for ■that purpose by the Contractor on delivery, 72 cubic feet being considered equivalent to a ton of 2240 lbs. 2nd.— The Contractor must have constantly on hand in Wellington a stock sufficient for 14 days consumption, from which alone the issues are to •be made ; this stock is to be deposited in some uonvenient yard or spot in or near the town, to be approved of by the Undersigned, or his successor in office; the wood to be :always subject to the inspection of the Senior -Commissariat Officer, or other person appointed by him for that duty, and any portion objected to at such inspection must be immediately removed and replaced by an article •of a satisfactory description, failing which, the •^Commissariat to have the power of purchasing at «4he expense of the Contractor; it being under -stood however, that the supplies are not to be (Considered as finally accepted, until actually receive&Tjy the Troops or others entitled to receive them. 3rd. — Each Tender to be accompanied by a statement signed by two approved parsons becoming securities for the due performance of the Contract, should the Tender be accepted, the penalty in each case will be the estimated amount .of three months contract. 4th — No transfer of a Contract will be pennitfted without the previous consent of the Under- . signed, or his successor in office. sth. — In the event of the Contractor having a portion of his supply condemned three times during an}' one calendar month, it shall be optional -. with the undersigned, or his successor in office, . to end the Contract at once, and to enforce the penalty of the bond. 6th. — The Contractor to prepare his own ac---count monthly, according to the prescribed form, . and on producing the same, with the "requisite \ Vouchers, in a complete state at this office, he • will receive payment by means of a Bill upon the ' Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury, •at par, whan tho amount is £.'>o or upwards — when : under that sum payment will be made in cash. 7th.— -A Tender once sent in cannot be with- • drawn or altered. Bth.— lu entering into any Contract it must be understood that the option will rest with the Commismriat Department, to adopt wholly Firewood or Coal, as the Fuel Kation, or such proportion of both, as may hereafter be deemed expedient. 9th. — It shall 1)6 in the power of either party tc .limit -tho duration of the Contract by giving (in wiiLing) a notice of three Calendar Montbe to the opposite party, and to end the Contract al the expiration of that period. Such notice to be given only on the first day of a month. Information as to what Tenders have been accepted, will be given as soon as practicable, and the B md must then be completed without delay, Printed Forms of Tender, and any other in- . formation that may be required, will be afforded on amplication at this Office.
