The Young Men's Christian Association has been established for a period of five years. Its aim has been to promote the Spiritual, Moral, and Intellectual Welfare of Young Men, In pursuance of this design the Committee were induced to e.-ti-blish a Library and Reading Rooms, where the combined advantages of Christian intercourse and social and Mental Improvement might be obtained. The Committee feel that these benefits have, to a considerable extent, been accomplished by this agency, and are, therefore, encouraged to invite a far larger number to avail themselves of the privileges afforded by this Institution. subscribers' cards. All persons subscribing 20s. per annum and upwards, are considered Honorary Members of the Society. LIBRARY. In the Library for circulation will be found a selection of Standard Works in the various departments of Christian, Scientific, Philosophical, Biographical, and Historical Literature; to which additions are made as the funds of the Society will permit. REFERENCE tIBBART. The Reference Library is supplied with valuable Cyclopaedias, and other works of reference, and is fitted with every convenience for correspondence and study. READING ROOM. Readings from Select Authors once a quarter. BIBLE CLASSES. A Scripture Conversation Class for Young Men is held every Sabbath afternoon at S o'clock, in the Rooms, Durham-street, under the superintendence of Mr. R. B. Shalders. A Class, for youths from 12 to 16 years of age, is also held every Sabbath afternoon, at 8 o'clock, in Mr. Gome's school-room. PRIZE ESSAYS. The Committee have great pleasure in stating that the sum of Twenty Guineas has been placed at their disposal by a friend of the Society, for the best Essay on " The Moral Welfare of New Zealand," to which they have added.Five Guineas as a Prize for the second best Essay on the same subject. The following conditions are shbjoined for the guidance of the writers : — 1 . The Essay not to consist of more than 200 pages of manuscript, letter size, 25 lines in a page, to be legibly written, on one side only. 2. To be competed for by Young Men residing in New Zealand, not exceeding 3G years of age. S. To be delivered free of expense to the Secretary of the Auckland Young Men's Christiau Association, Durham-street, on or before June Ist, 1860. 4. The Essays to bear a motto, and to be accompanied by a sealed letter giving the name and address of the writer, which letter will not b« opened until the adjudication is made. 5. The prizes will be awarded to the successful . competitors at the Soiree of the Association held in the month of September, 1860. 6.
