THE WAIRARAPA AND WANGANUI ROLLS.
Probably tbe saino reason that induced ua to pass.almost unnoticed, tbo holding atthe Hutt of the Revising Officers Dourt for Wairarapa, ha 9 weighed with the Wanganui press relative to the announcement, appearing in lhe local paper, that the Court for Wanganni would be held nujct Tuesday at the Supreme Court house, Wellington. Only some half dozen persons were publicly objected to in either district, and as these, with one exception, were made by the Registration Officer to persons known lo have died or left, it seemed scarcely worth while to urge that the Revising Officer's arrangeruents should •be altered. We were content to let them lerruiiu as they are, rather thaw that he should journey either to theWairnrapa orWangahui, to do five minutes work of no interest or consequence to any one; but the coarse which Mr. Hart considers the Act obliges him to follow, that of requiring particulars of the exact position of leasehold aud freehold lands, has '-shown the holding a Court in each district, to be of no little consequence. Seventy six persons are thus objected loin the Wairarapa, and beyoud hanging out a. list of their names outside the Wellington Court house, no steps are taken to make them atquainted with the risk of disfranchisement to which they are liable.' A notice was certainly inserted by Mr. Hart in all the newspapers that he should object to the word "land" as an insufficient description, but as this description was a most rare one it excited little notice, no one for a moment supposing that Mr. St Hill, the registration officer, had altered the qualifications of almost every leaseholder and ireeholder in the district, after the roll had beeti exposed the 14 days requbed by the Act, and that in 99 cases out of 100, the objectionable word "land", which bus cnuseii 80 much trouble, had been inserted by that gentleman.. - The Waiigtiuui district ruus the risk of being completely disfranchised. The following notice has been posted an the Court House here. - Electoral District of Wanganui. List of Voters. Tbe Revising Officer objects to the names of all the leaseholders, and all the freeholders for want of description of their properties. Tbe Court will be held on the 2lst of June 1859 at the Supreme Court House, Wellington. j For how long a period Mr. Hart "will adjourn his Court.we do not know; Jiut judging from the readiness he , has evinced in other districts to give, as ample time as circumstances will ■ permit, we believe it will be sufficient to afford an opportunity, for at least a week's canvass in thedistrict; any le3s period will*' b,e insufficient. 'If ' We have been informed'that the -roll was not formed and exposed by ,'Klajor Durie, the Registration Officer at-.Wan-gan.ui," during the first 14 days ofMarch", as required by the Act. Wo call theatteulion of : Wangauui' pariieultirly to" this, report, as if the "Itito .;'has-" ; not been complied with by Major Durie/ the old; roll will remain iv force during next year, aud no disfranchisement can take place. ,',.'., .- .7
