SE-TENCE 01' M. DE MONTALEMBERT,

Paris, November 2-1 th.

The case of Comic dcMontitlembort and M. Dounugre, manager of the Journal, was tried to-day.

From nine o'clock in thoniorningnjeonsitlerablc crowd surrounded the doors of the Hall of Audience, which was soon filled by persons provided with tickets. A great number of advocates in their robes occupied the benches reserved for tbe bur.

Proceedings commenced at twelve o'clock precisely.

M. de Montalcmbcrt, formerly a peer ol France, was accused of having (1) excited public hatred and contempt of the Government of tbe Emperor by writing a certain article in the Correspondent. (2) Of having attacked the respect due to the laws. (3) Of having attacked the right and authority which the Emperor possesses by virtue of the Constitution and the principle of Universal Suffrage, and (<1) for having sought to disturb the public peace by exciting the hatred or contempt of citizens against each other.

The pleading lasted till half past six. The tribunal was one hour considering the verdict,

The sitting wasjresumed at half past seven. The verdict sentences M. do Montnlcmbevt to six months' imprisonment and ,'3ooof. fine. The editor of the Correspondent is sentencedto one month's imprisonment and IOOOf. fine.
