THE LATE LAND SALE.

We would rather have left unnoticed the paltry annoyance to wliich the Land Department was subjected on Monday last ; but as our Radical friends profess to bo actuated ou all occasions by purely patriotic motives, we briefly narrate the facts of the case—presuming that as on former occasions, no very strong blast of the Howdy; organ will herald their discomfiture.

On the 3rd instant, a sale of Provincial Government lands'took place in the Land Oilice, after a lengtboned no'lice in the Gazette and otherwise. The Chief Commissioner wm in the country and the tusk fell on Mr. Lewis, the Chief Clerk. This gantlomuu lias on former occasions acted as the Auctioneer, indeed generally docs. A day or- tvyo-'afterwards; Mr.; Lewis received a summons to attend at ; the Polieo Court for selling by .auction,! he not being licensed for that purpose.! Of course tho case was dismissed ; thei law expressly providing for any sale au-i thorised by the Governor or the Superin-i tondent.
