PROCLAMATION.
1854 and 1858.
Whereas, on or about the 15th day of September, 1854, n certain Resolution was proposed in the House of Hcpresentives oi New Zealand, to the effect that the next session of the said Assembly should be held at Wellington. And Whereas, if such Resolution had been carried, there is no doubt that the seat of Government would havo shortly followed, whereby groat benefit and advantage would have accrued to Wellington aforesaid. And Wiikiikas, tho said Resolution would have been carried had not one Eiiward Gibbon Wakefiew), and one E. Jekningiiam Wakki-ield, Members of the said House of Representatives, declined to vote in favor of the said Resolution, and deliberately left tho House when a division was called for thereon; whereby the General Assembly hath evor since continued to meet at Auckland, and the prospect.of Wellington becoming the seat of Government is indefinitely postponed.
NOW THEREFORE,!, ALFRED LUDLAJt, do hereby proclaim and declaro, that tho said E. G, Wakefield and E. J. Wakeßold, iv so refusing to vote as aforesaid, be-
I traced the South, and were guilty of ;HiBH Treason to the Provinoe of Wellington, andl hereby caution the Electors of the said Proviuoe that if they should ever again eleot either of the said: treasonable and traitorous persons to be their Representatives, they will be sold by the said persons, and when so sold will HAVE ONLY TO THANK THEMSELVES. ;: (Signed). .'■-■: Alfred Ludlam, Speaker, and Acting Superintendent, by virtue of a legal quibble.
