Mr. Stafford said he had honor to present a.\ petition from 800 of the lnhabiUnts of the Province of \Y ellington in reference to the eoiiteiri- "' "plated change in the tariff. He (Mr.; Stafford ); had not voiified the number; of names, but .he had beeu assured by Mr. Clifford, to whom it was fur.yarded for presentation, and who from his position as Speaker had not beeu able to present it,;that the number was correct, of which' - from its monstrous length, he had no' d-jubt. [Mr. Stafford heie uniolled the petition, which was many yards in length.] The House was aware that petitions had been pre ented relative to the same subject from the Chambers of Commerce of Wellington and Nelson. He begged to move that the Petition be taken into] coi> sideration when the Tariff Bill was .under discussion . —Agreed to.
The messenger for Dr. I'eatherston's Committee returned from Ahuriri last night. t He has had a very tough journoy, both gojng'and coming, in consequence of the inclemency of the weather.
