HUTT ELECTION.

ME3IBEUS FOll THE PROVINCIAL COUNCIL The nomination of four candidates to represent the Hutt District in the Council of this province took place yesterday nt the hustings which hi>,d been erected for the purpose in the stable yard adjoining the Aglionby Arms, Hutt Bridge. We have only time to observe that eight gentlemen were nominated, viz., Messrs. E. G .Wakefield, G. Hart, A. Reuull, A. Ludlam, G. Scott, T. Mason, T. Sellurs, and Capt.-Daniell. On the show of hands being taken for each Candidate, the Returning Officer declared the election to have fallen on Messrs. Wakefield, Hart, Renall, and Ludlam, whereupon a poll was demanded for the other Candidates, and the poll takes place to-day. The contest is likely to be a severe one, and as party feeling runs very high in the district, the excitement will doubtless be very great.
