ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor of the Wellington Independent. Sin—Three vessels having started for Port Victoria on the same day, somo interest was excited as to which vessel would arrivt there first, and I believe some money bus changed hands on tbe occasion. Being a passenger ou board tbe Fly, perhaps the following facts may not be uninteresting to those parties concerned, and to your readers generally. Tbe Fly has proved herself on many occasions the fastest anil safest vessel sailing out of this port, and many are the victories she has achieved within my knowledge ; but my purpose is now to describe her last voyage to Lyttellon. She left Wellington at It a.m. on Monday, October C, with wind from the N.W., in company with the schooner Twins; the Government Brig left soon after, all bound for the same port. The Fig kept the lead, Rnd when off the Kai Koms the wind suddenly shifted found to the S.W. when the c&ptain of tbe cutter endeavoured to make for that port, but after running back '-JO miles it was found impossible to do so} she therefore stood again for I'ort Cooper, and arrived and anchored there 9ome time before either the brig or sebooner mude their appearance. The Fly left Again for Wellington at 10 o'clock on Tuesday the 14th, and she was safely anchored at Wellington by 4 o'clock P.M., on the following day, notwithstanding she was becalmed for many hours ou her passage. Yours, &c, X. Y. Z.
