RIVER HUTT.

!■..-■. (Front our Correspondent.) Taita, 25th February, 185 i, wU&fi this 'ilisiriet.ihas .'for some. time past been very fine, a little rain would do us a great" deal of good. This season has been an unusually dry one. { The fires in the bush still continue ; blazing, briskly fit interva_s,;and hundreds of apres of: scrub.aiid; brush, have; been . cleared between this and the Wairarapa. Every now and then the ear is saluted with the crash pf some huge monarch of the wopds measuring his length upon the ground,,. The. old adage of Fire is a . good servant but a bad master, .is literally true, his motto seems to be One down Uother copie on. 1 am happy, however, in being able to state, that comparatively little damage has been done, either to stock or crop. E[e feels confident.that it, will be. chosen as a. place for shearing the flocks of the Wairarapa settlers. The wooi might then be packed and forwarded ,to Wellington without the J\sk P-.. S( 4 carriage.;; This, sifable object, and deserving the support of all persons connected with the line of "'fpM to Wairarapa. It will just be & pretty comfortable days'., journey v.for cattle, (to this proposed house), from Wairarapa, without distressing them. Several of the most influential parties have given it their countenance and support, and he has the good wishes and signatures of all parties frequeinting.the road to and from the' : Wairarapa. I trust he may succeed in carrying out his views,, but i,( he is not • properly; supported it will, be a deadloss tb him.....
