On Monday morning early, Mr. Hammond of the Porirua-road discovered a man hanging, by means of a rope, from a branch of a tree, which stands not far from the old.road. An alarm, was instantly given, and several neighbours hastened to the spot. An attempt was made to cut the man down without climbing the tree, but this not being practicable Hammond climbed up and cul. the rope. Deceased proved to be one of the Poriruaroad settlers, named — Woodman. ■' The unfortunate man was quite dead. ~ Indeed his death must' have been'speedy, for the rope round his'neok had been fastened running noose fashion, and the
fall he had 'allowed was from eight to ten fe&t; ; ' Airiuquest Svnis held' the same morning, on view of the body; and after a most patient investigation the jury returned a verdict that deceased " foestroyed himself whilst labouring under temporary insanity."
