The Lieut. Governor returned this nWning from the Wairau, .in the schooner Old Jack. He had not succeeded iv finding a route to Port Cooper, and gave up the attempt in consequence otan accident befalling one of the party. Prom Wairau Mr. Eyre proceeded through Kaparatehau district and through the country to the back of the Kai Kora range.—The party ascended Tapuaemiku mountain which was ed with snow at the summit. Here Wiremu Hoeta, the best Native guide in this part of the countryj and a worthy young man, was missed. It is supposed that he missed his footing and fell down a pr%'eiplce; for'-blood was observed".on the snow, but though the Lieut. Gover- - nor and his party searched diligently for the remains of the poor fellow, Hoeta's body was not found. "
