ROME.
The Corriere Mercantile of Genoa, of the 27th ult., publishes intelligence from Civita Veccliia, on the faith of letters and verbal communications received from the passengers on board the post-steamer, arrived on the same day. On the 23rd the French lost the bastions they had occupied, the breach, and the gate, in consequence of their being attacked by the Romans in front and on the flank. The attack in front was executed under tho orders of General Uoselli. The attack on the flank was directed by Garribaidi, and was made while the French were effecting their retreat. Other accounts state that the French first attempted to enter the city, where they found formidable barricades supported Vy a numerous and well-served artillery; aiid that it was on their retreat from this attack they lost their position. The loss of'the French. is stated variously, but asserted on ail hands to have been very severe. The result of this action is stated to be the discontinuance of offensive operations, and a suspension of hostilities.— Morning Chronicle, July 4.
