MECHANICS' INSTITUTE.
A special general Meeting of the members of the above Institute was held at Barrett's Hotel, on Wednesday evening, the llth inst., "for the purpose of considering the propriety of altering the name of the Institution to the Wellington Athenaeum and Mechanics' Institute/ His Honor Mr. Justice Chapman was called to the Chair. The Chairman having, in a most interesting speech, stated the objects of the Meeting:— Mr. Fox moved the following resolu tion, which was seconded by Mr. Woodward, and carried unanimously , — " That in order to enlarge the scope and increase the utility of this Institution, an addition be made to the title by which it is designated, and that for the future it be called 'The Wellington Athenaeum and Mechanics' Institute,'" Mr. M-Kenzie and Mr. Lyon having addressed the meeting, the question was put, one hand only being held up against it. Mr. Moore moved, and Mr. Duncan seconded, a vote of thanks to his Honor for his attendance, and able conduct in the Chair, which was carried unanimously ; after which the meeting separated.
