On Monday the rebel prisoners taken at the Parri Parri by the Waikanae na tives were tried by Court Manial at Porirua. Nine native witnesses, and one white man, were brought forward to give evidence against them. One of the prisoners being a mere lad, is to be restored to his friends. The sentence of the Court will not be made known till the signature of the commanding officer has been affixed. The prisoners express the utmost indifference as to what the sentence may be. They have made up their minds for the worst, anticipating that they will be sentenced to death. Mr Wade was in conversation with Kumete for some time—Kumete said that when he was tried for the Hutt robberies theevi. dence was all false, that the Governor knew so and pardoned him. This time, however, the korero was true. He informed Mr, Wade that when he left the gaol he proceeded up the coast for the purpose of returning to his own land. He stopped at Taupo, when Rauparaha asked him why he had left Rangihaeata ? Kumete answered that he wished to have nothing more to do with the disturbances. Rauparaha in reply threa ened him with death if he did not return to Rangihaeata, saying "if you pass this place I will send word to Otaki, and there your life will be taken." Kumete said in conclusion, I suppose I shall be hanged, I don't care.
