OREGON.

A late American paper says i—•' Mr. Calhoun claims the whole of Oregon, every inch, and that he will take the stand that he has always taken— neither relinquishing our title, nor pressing it to a collision with Great Britain. Adopting ' a wise and masterly inactivity,' he will leave this claim to work itself out."

This is in all probability the course which will ba pursued, and as far as the Americans are concerned

in it, most like'y they will not willingly come to a. rupture. Every day the population of the territory increases, and as Emigration frora England wil never keep pace with the outpouring of people of all conditions from every section of the Union, the territory will, as a matler of course, remain in poeeession of tli« Americans. We think we may venture to predict ihnt there will be no war with tbe United Statee.

We transcribe th« following interesting article from the Salem Register of December 4, 1845 :— " Government op OnßooN.— We leara from the Sandwich Island Friend that the Territory of Oregon has already a Government, Legislature and Council. The officers of Oregon Territory consist of three Governors, called the Executive Committee, a Supreme Judge, and a Legislative Council. The laws are the flame as those governing the Territory of lowa. The Government is purely Democratic Republican. Dr. Bibcock is tbe Supreme Judge. The name only of one of the Governors, Dr. Batley U mentioned. " On the sth of August a Bejgi m brig arrived at Oregon City, having on board a number o f Nuns, and several Romin Ctholic Prie-U, from Antwerp, sent out to Oregon by the Church of Rume.—People were coming into the Territory in large number., and the country is filling up with thriving and enterprising colonists.

" One of the settlers writes :— 'Come on, brother Yankees, and make Oregon another New England.'"

A Railroad to Oregon Is in contemplation ia the United Sates.
