GARDENER'S CALENDAR.

AUGUST. Vine= should be pruned early this month; if left until vegetation has begun to. work, if not prevented, will materially weaken them, and injare the forthcoming crop. This bleeding in the vine is not easily prevented; but as in all cases a preventive is better than cure, it will, if ic'happea to us in extent, sufficiently remind us of the necessity of pruning our vines soon alter vegetation, ceases, but not till the wood is ripe. Were this attended to, this complaint would seldom require a oure. Finish removing those fruit trees which were not planted last month. Attention should be paid that each sort be planted at a proper distance, that the tre .?s may have fur some years pjen.ty of room to grow, without interfering with each other. Planting beans the sooner in the month the better. In this and all other cases connected with planting and sowing, the exact time must be regulated by the state of the weather, and the nature of tbe soil. In light sandy soils, sowing and planting should be done as early as possible; and in wet strong soils, the seeds are better in the seed room than in the ground, when it is not in a fit state to receive them. The quantity sown should be acthe demand. Beans planted once will remain in, the ground and produce good crops, bycutting them over and top-dressing them witn manure: they will bear fruit two or three years. Sow cabbage, cauliflower, savoy, and German greens. Plant out cabbages, cauliflowers, & savoys, as soon as they are in a strong state. Sow early peas the raiddle of this month, and continue successive cropping. Continue sowing salads where they are wanted for the table.
