J The " Fire Queen " has brought Singapore papers to the 11th September, and China papers to the Bth August. The harbour of Singapore must have presented a tery cheerful and animated appearance, on the arrival of four steamers within a short time of each other, from different parts of the East; the Fire Queen from" Calcutta; the Bragansa with the London Mails from Galle ; the Lady Mary Wood with the China Mails for Europe; and the Batavia. Thelnterest and theimportance of this settlement as the grand depot of the Eastern archipelago, the centre of all communication to the eastward, will be increased in no small degree when another line of Steamers has been established to New Holland, Van Dieman's Land and New Zealand. We have looked in. vain through these papers new received for any notice of the course, objector success of the powerfulsquadron which recently left Us harbour 1 trader the command of Sir Thomas Cochrane.,*
